PFAS-free — what that means for you
You may have seen "PFAS-free" on our page and wondered what it means. Here's everything you need to know — and why we think it's the most important claim a period care brand can make right now.
What are PFAS?
PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — a group of over 10,000 synthetic chemicals that have been used in manufacturing since the 1940s. They're nicknamed "forever chemicals" because they don't break down in the environment or in the human body. Once they're in, they stay in.
PFAS have been found in the blood of 97% of Americans. They've been linked to serious health concerns including hormone disruption, thyroid disease, immune suppression, and certain cancers.
How do PFAS end up in sanitary pads?
PFAS are often used in the manufacturing process for their water-resistant and anti-stick properties. They can be present in the plastic backing, the adhesive strips, or introduced during the bleaching and processing of materials. The troubling part: a 2023 independent study found PFAS indicators in nearly half of conventional sanitary pads tested — including several marketed as "organic" or "natural."
Organic certification alone does not guarantee PFAS-free. A product can be made from organic cotton and still contain PFAS introduced during manufacturing.
What makes Edynn Organic different?
Our pads contain zero PFAS — not as a marketing claim, but as a result of deliberate material and manufacturing choices:
- 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, which prohibits PFAS at every stage of production
- No plastic components where PFAS are commonly introduced
- No synthetic adhesives or processing chemicals
- SAP-free — no synthetic absorbent polymers that can carry chemical residues
We are committed to providing full transparency about what is and isn't in our products. Your body deserves nothing less.
